Hornady 55 gr FMJ/BT

Hornady’s 55 gr bullet is a Full Metal Jacket / Boat Tail and is exceptionally accurate out of 16″ and 18″ barrel AR-15s. We use a very clean-burning powder to achieve 3100 fps at the muzzle. With a G1 Ballistic Coefficient (BC) of .243, it has more drop at 400 yards than Watchdog’s 77 gr Berger OTM with a BC of .376 that we load in our hunting ammo. The 55 gr FMJ is also more susceptible to wind drift.  The trade-off is a much higher muzzle velocity for CQB (Close Quarters Battle) or personal defense ranges out to 200 yards.  We do not recommend this round for hunting, and in some states it would not be legal since it may be lighter than the minimum weight required and is a non-expanding bullet.
