The 5.56 NATO version of our Hornady 55 gr V-Max is our highest velocity polymer tipped expanding round in .224 caliber. We do not recommend this ammo for an AR-15 labeled as “.223 Rem” since the NATO pressure exceeds the SAAMI spec. Barrels marked as 5.56 NATO, .223 Wylde, or 5.56/.223 have a chamber specifically designed to handle this higher pressure. Muzzle velocity = 3300 fps. G1 Ballistic Coefficient = .255.
